In Your Facebook

facebook_logo.gifThere are more politically conservative Nashvillians registered on Facebook.com than there are liberals, according to a search tool provided by Facebook for placing advertisements on the highly popular social networking site. According to that search tool, there are approximately 9,480 Facebook members from Nashville who are between the ages of 18 and 65 and describe their politics as "liberal." But there are 10,060 self-described political moderates, and 13,320 self-described political conservatives.

Overall, 77,260 of Facebook's more than 20 million registered members are from Nashville. Obviously, not all of them provided information about their political preference.

Update: I just ran the same search for Memphis, and found that Memphis conservatives outnumber Memphis liberals on Facebook 9,960 to 7,220. But Memphis liberals did outnumber Memphis moderates, of which there are 6,760 on Facebook.

Bill, one small quibble - one doesn't have to indicate a political persuasion on Facebook. You wouldn't have turned up my profile in either search, because I've never made a selection. If all of the groups decline to share that tidbit in similar proportions, it wouldn't matter much, but it's worth noting.
