Read the RICO Lawsuit Against Bredesen

tnflag.jpgNews media looking for a copy of the lawsuit filed Oct. 12 in Davidson County Chancery Court against Gov. Phil Bredesen and certain current or former members of his administration alleging federal racketeering and civil rights violations can download a copy of the lawsuit by clicking here. Now, the state's political reporters don't have to trudge over to the court clerk's office and pay 50 cents per page for a copy of the 41-page lawsuit.

Bill,

What's your overall take on this lawsuit? I mean...

Here the Republicans have been calling for Tenncare reform for years. A Democrat governor does the dirtywork and reforms the program and gets a lawsuit whipped on him for his efforts.

Phil Bredesen is a Democrat. You are a Republican. How do you fall on this? Side with Phil because he reformed Tenncare or against Phil because he's from the opposing political party?

At what point would one political party come to agreement with another? I await reading your thoughts on this issue.

Fair being fair, I'll tell you my opinion... I don't like A LOT of Phil's programs or decisions, Troopergate immediately coming to mind. But if he had the balls (and we're not talking about the lottery... that's another issue for another day) to save Tennessee from going bankrupt in the Tenncare debacle, then on this issue, I'd support his victory over this lawsuit.

Then I'd ask your other readers: Where do you stand? Are you a Democrat, a Republican or a Tennessean?

There is no way the court can let this case stand. The pattern of allegations against those in the state administration amounts to a finding that lying, manipulation of "facts", posturing and hiding money to improve the illusion of being broke is no longer allowed.

This document could be used as a template for many actions against the governor. I don't think a broken promise to operate the government as a business can be enforced. The governor certainly is not running TDOT like a business. Why didn't the Comptrollers office share in the suit?

Is it possible that the governor could roll back the reforms to throw this problem into the lap of the next governor?
