« Round 2 | Main | Republican Party Urges Dems to Do the Right Thing, Give Up The Dirty Money » September 4, 2007Tennessee Democrats to Keep Hsu's Dirty Money
The TDP has received some $58,000 from Hsu since 2004, while failed Harold Ford Jr. got $17,000 from Hsu for the Democrat's losing bid for the U.S. Senate last year, records show. According to an article by Ken Whitehouse at NashvillePost.com, Tennessee Democratic Party spokesman Wade Munday said, "the contributions were received properly disclosed and utilized during the previous election cycle." When asked if state Democrats planned to donate money to charity or return it to Hsu, Munday stated, "the party utilized that money in the last cycle and now we are moving ahead."Translation: the party won't do the right thing and dip into this year's donations in order to return possibly stolen money to the people Hsu stole it from. This is not surprising. Last year, the Tennessee Democratic Party kept the money it got from former 1Point Solutions CEO Barry Stokes even though it may well have come from the retirement savings of his customers that Stokes was accused of looting. As for the Hsu money, if the TDP says it can't return the money because it spent in "the last cycle," well, it looks to me like they could just go back in time and un-spend it:

Hsu's Ponzi scheme reminds of the one that former state representative Ray Davis (D-Milan) was just convicted for bilking people and churches out of over $10 million. State Rep. Phil Pinion (D-Union City) profited from it, and Senator Roy Herron (D-Dresden) is financially involved with Davis as well. I guess those Democrats love Ponzi schemes. LINK Posted by: DT at September 4, 2007 12:10 PMAgain, the GOP kept Abdul Tawala Ibn Ali Alishtaris money, citing "innocent until proven guilty." Haven't heard if they ever did. BTW, Bill, I haven't heard if you are continuing with your blog now that you're officially the mouthpiece of the TN GOP ... what's the verdict? Posted by: Southern Beale at September 4, 2007 12:13 PMBeale - Hsu was already found guilty. He was a fugitive because he failed to show up for his sentencing. I don't work for the TN GOP yet. Not until Oct. 29. The blog will most certainly continue until then. After that, it will continue in some form, though exactly what form that will take I don't know. I'm going to be rather busy, so blogging here will be quite limited I'm sure. Posted by: Bill Hobbs at September 4, 2007 2:43 PMPost a comment
