Nutroots Takes Aim At Cooper

U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Nashville, is targeted for defeat - or reeducation - the left wing of his own party.

This is actually nothing new. Remember in 2006 Ginny Welch of Radio Free Nashville ran against Cooper as an "independent." Her supporters showed up at every anti-war rally and other progressive gathering to hand out literature and proclaim Coop a "Bush Democrat."

I would argue with them about it, which sorta took them by surprise, I guess they figured every anti-war Democrat was in lockstep.

As a proud member of the "nutroots," I have to say, I've always defended Jim Cooper. He doesn't always vote the way I want him to, but when I call his office to ask why, he always has a good reason. I may not agree with that reason, but there's a reason. He's not one to vote on legislation just for the sake of "making a statement" about something, and he's not one to walk in lockstep with the rest of the Democrats just because Nancy Pelosi keeps everyone on a tight leash.

And that pisses off some Progressives, but I happen to like it. Let's leave the rubberstamping to the Kool-Aid drinkers on the right side of the aisle, that's always been my philosophy.

Glad to see a Dem supporting her Congressperson. But "Kool Aid drinkers," indeed - The puritanical tendency most definitely sits on the Left-hand side of the isle, these days.

What a ridiculous jibe at the Right - the issue under discussion is the hounding of decent representatives by a Party that has been taken over by a pack of juvenile delinquents.

"Rubberstamping?" It's called coalition politics, darling. The Party that is best at doing it wins. Explain to me how the targeting of southern conservative Democrat reps by a bunch of NY liberals helps the Democrats build their coalition? I just don't get it - even if it is old news.
