« Fitzhugh Update | Main | No-Tax-Increase Pledge Update » May 24, 2007Tax Increase Amid Surplus Looks More Likely
Any Republican who votes for a tax increase at a time when the state has a $1.3 billion surplus (in recurring and non-recurring funds) deserves to face a challenger in the next Republican primary. Republicans voting to raise your taxes: Sen. Randy McNally of Oak Ridge, Sen. Tim Burchett of Knoxville, Sen. Mark Norris of Collierville, and Sen. Bo Watson of Hixson. Republicans Sen. Diane Black of Gallatin, and Sen. Raymond Finney of Maryville abstained. Posted in Tennessee Government News

I was there Brother Hobbs... truly mystifying. Do the R's have something up their sleeves? I think not. Increase taxes on cigarettes only if you can get tax relief elsewhere (food). Why have Republicans in control if this is what you get? Primaries? Why not? Sen. Burchett should be primaried on goofiness alone. Burchett and Woodson actually believe that the increased spending on education will yield benefits. They think they are being "responsible" and satisfy themselves that they are "working with the administration." Get rid of them. Burchett's idea of conservatism is being able to ride a motorcycle without a helmut and carry a handgun while in dangerous areas like state parks. He lacks any vision or imagination. In short, these dudes are getting rolled by Bredesen. There will be no tax relief this year and there will be a substantial increase in spending.
