Meanwhile, the Bredesen administration says the state can't afford to give up the $39 million it would cost to cut the food tax half a penny. Gov. Bredesen seems mighty able to find nearly half a billion dollars to dangle before foreign automakers, but not even a half a penny to help the people of Tennessee. Posted in Tennessee Government News

You should be a little more specific, Bill. From the Fishwrap, "...73 of the cuts are Nissan employees, mostly call center workers at the Primus office building in Cool Springs, and 182 others work for outside vendors. Most of the cuts are in Middle Tennessee; a few work elsewhere. No workers at the BellSouth Building downtown are affected." Posted by: "John Galt" at March 7, 2007 2:56 PMNissan is moving here so their headquarters expenses can be reduced. It is logical they would take the opportunity to trim unnecessary jobs. However, I agree with the sentiment that Gov. Bredesen sold out Tennessee taxpayers to lure the company here. Possibly the state will eventually profit from the move but it will take years.
