What's most interesting about the film is the idea of corporations, long the subject of critical documentaries, adopting the genre for their own ends. The Moving Picture Institute has not had much luck shopping the documentary at film festivals. But they have a backup plan: the group is showing the film on campuses, and the MPI has a list of every school district in the country. Jim Wilson, MPI's project director, said the group would like to ship copies of "Mine Your Own Business" to every school that's shown "An Inconvenient Truth" to students. "We're looking to pattern our project off of theirs," Wilson said.Schools ought to show their students both documentaries, though I suspect some will show only the Al Gore global warming scare-a-thon but refuse to show MYOB. I'm all for being a good steward of the planet. But exactly when did we decide that absolutely everything on the planet took precedence over humanity? Posted by: Katherine Coble at February 6, 2007 4:13 PMKatherine, I believe this was decided when the elite figured out that "saving humanity" was the easiest path to power. Regards, Wildmonk Posted by: Wildmonk at February 7, 2007 7:45 AMJust watched the documentary last night, and my jaw spent a considerable amount of time on the floor. It is outstanding and necessary work, and needs to be seen by the widest audience possible. I will be passing it along. Posted by: MagicalPat at February 7, 2007 8:00 AMAl Gore wants us to reduce our carbon footprints, while he flys around in a private jet. That says it all to me. Posted by: Mahone at February 7, 2007 8:05 AMYou can add the Europeans and other "greens" who would prefer Africans to go around in mosquito netting than spray DDT and save hundreds of thousands of lives from Malaria. Thankfully, a few African leaders began ignoring them. The same goes for the anti-genetically modified food people who prefer starvation to crops that will deter fungus and other agricultural plagues. Posted by: Catherine at February 7, 2007 8:32 AMIt's funny because I am not usually much of a prophet, but back when the Soviet Union went belly up, I remarked to a friend that environmentalism would probably become the last refuge of socialism. I wish I had been wrong. Mark Posted by: Mark at February 7, 2007 8:44 AMWhen you're talking about criminals, it's "Follow the Money". When you're talking about politicians, it's "Follow the Power". What's most galling about the "greens" and their anti-development mindset is the amount of environmental damage for which they're directly responsible. If some mining and other economic development could go on in Madagascar (and our money wasn't being peed away on "anthropogenic" global warming that doesn't exist), perhaps the poor schlubs of Madagascar wouldn't be deforesting the island to survive, and it wouldn't be washing into the Indian Ocean. If we could do a little more genetic engineering of vegetables, perhaps the rivers of northern California would actually end in the ocean, instead of being diverted to farm the desert that is the Central Valley. Am I just missing it? I'd like to click through. Thank you for the link on my column the other week. Did you see the video-blog as well? http://www.townhall.com/blog/g/3c47e719-7614-4309-82ea-2a08c4f7e387 Thanks! Posted by: marykatharine at February 7, 2007 10:52 AMPost a comment
