Meanwhile, the Nashville City Paper reports today that WIlder is claiming it is "God's will" that he be re-elected as Senate Speaker. The City Paper also has a good editorial urging senators not to continue Wilder's "vacuous leadership" Posted in Tennessee Government News

Cooper is going to abstain, so that will leave it 16-16, which leaves Wilder in power until the tie is broken. Posted by: Sharon Cobb at January 5, 2007 7:53 AMThe City Paper editorial was a good one. It didn't focus on his age and being a heartbeat away from the Governorship but on his lack of leadership. Wilder has not been a leader, he has survived by walking the middle and not rocking the boat. He is good at going along to get along...and counting to 17. Posted by: Jim at January 5, 2007 9:59 AMThis is outrageous. Anyone with two good eyes can see Wilder is utterly incapable of performing the duties of Speaker of the Senate for the next 2 years. I've seen people in nursing homes more coherent. Does anyone remember Bredesen's health scare last year ? If something happens to Bredesen, Wilder becomes Governor. Why on earth can't we persuade a sane Democrat to back Ramsey (in exchange for a chairmanship, if necessary), since 1 treacherous RINO refuses to support the will of TN's voters that the Republicans organize the Senate ? Posted by: D.J. Jones at January 5, 2007 11:12 AMAnyone who would vote for Wilder is too irresponsible to be in the legislature. Posted by: Donna Locke at January 5, 2007 8:07 PMPost a comment
