A story in the Boston Herald reports that officials in Massachussets want to make sure they get an accurate count of illegal immigrants living in the state as part of the 2010 census, so the state doesn't lose a congressional seat. If the census counts illegals accurately in every state, we may well see California, Arizona and Texas gain House seats. FAIR - the Federation for American Immigration Reform - estimates Texas has 1.6 million illegals, California 2.7 million, and Arizona 489,000. (Estimates for all states here.) The 435 congressional seats are apportioned based on population, with each seat currently representing between 650,000 and 700,000 people.
