Will the Senate Pick Wilder Again?

tnflag.jpgThe Tuesday Tennessean has a report on a story that broke first on the blogs Monday, the challenge by state Sen. Joe Haynes to the continuation of Sen. John Wilder as Speaker of the Senate and Lt. Governor. The Nashville City Paper's story today is better and more detailed, and they have a good editorial on the situation too.

Here is VolunteerVoters.com's complete roundup yesterday of coverage and analysis yesterday from the blogs.

Meanwhile, to see Sen. Wilder in action, click the play button on the video screen.

One comment springs to mind, "Pick it out, John."

Does the GOP have any heir apparent to take on Williams for that Senate Seat in 2008? If by some good fortune, Wilder does not get the Speaker position, he'll inevitably resign. Any word on who would be appointed/elected to fill his seat? My understanding of state law is that if a sitting legislator resigns/dies, the County Commission in his home county appoints a temporary legislator.

I'm tired of hearing of any Republican who votes Democrat or toes the Democrat line be called a "maverick." There is absolutely nothing positive or "maverick" about the possibility of Williams' stabbing his constituents in the back to select Wilder again, for his own personal gain.

Until Republicans on the state level and nationally learn how to shoot to kill when the opposition gives them a target, conservatives will always be a minority in governing.
