Congressional Spending Report Card

By Rick Forman
To complement the Congressional Rankings, I suggest a visit to TRIM for the Tennessee delegation. None of the 9 representatives from our state have an acceptable voting record regarding lower taxes and less government. It surprised me that Marsha Blackburn's TRIM report was worse on spending and taxes than Harold, Jr.

I wanted to compare Ford's history with Bryant but their archives go back to Spring 2003.

The TRIM ratings are pointless. They don't incorporate Dem alternative spending bills. So the Dems on the list vote against the appropriations bills listed because they're GOP bills and less spending. The Republicans vote for these approps bills because they're better than the Dem alternatives and spending wish lists, and somehow the Dems get rated higher because they voted no. This is incredibly non-dynamic scoring. Hobbs is right - Citizens Against Gov't Waste and Club for Growth know how to rate accurately, TRIM does not.

Not to mention Ford has been on his re-invention tour since '00 when the NRA took out Gore and the idea of fiscal conservatism became main-stream.

He and Hillary represent the whiplash caucus... adjusting their 'core' beliefs in the interest of appearances.

It would seem that they are going to school on Gore's and Kerrys failure and intend to present themselves to the nation as viable conservative alternatives.

Don't buy these misleading machiavellian maneuvers for a second if elected hell be a loyal foot soldier of the Democratic partys left-wing leadership.

Based on voting records and Jack Ryan's comment above, all ratings are pointless. There is always a special circumstance or poison pill that can spoil the objectivity of the vote.

Look at the recent funding for a border fence. By just looking at the 2 votes it seems the Republicans were "against it before they were for it". When in actuality the first bill had a liberal poison pill. Realizing the 1st vote was bad PR, they scurried to vote up and down on another bill.

Voting guides are for the majority of voters who don't have the time, inclination nor intelligence to investigate the candidate's position on the issues or read the legislation on which they voted.

However, if a Rep. constantly votes to raise the debt ceiling, or increase spending and then jumps on the bandwagon of "I voted for the least" or you "should have seen the Democrats/Republicans plan", I have no use for them. They are the status quo and it's the status quo that is driving this country into an $80 trillion bankruptcy.

They depend on the short term memories of the constituency and the unfortunate Congressional members who will be in office when the hammer falls in a few years and the bill comes due.

I'm sick of the games and slight of hand that politicians use to blow smoke up my broadside.

But one thing is very clear and factual, since Bush has been President the size and cost of government has skyrocketed and that's going to be tough to overcome in November.
