A Six Pack and a Bug Zapper

fireworks.gifI live in Franklin, Tennessee, where it illegal to set off fireworks, though outside the city limits there are numerous roadside stands selling all manner of personal pyrotechnics. In the subdivision where I and my family reside, it seems as if every other house is occupied by people who think stuff that explodes is waaaay cool. And every year on the Fourth of July, the neighborhood's "open-source" fireworks display rivals the city's own official display. I don't mind it on July 4th. Fact is, this year I'm going to try to photograph it.

But for the life of me I can't understand the fascination with firecrackers and fireworks that leads people - half our subdivision, it seems - to shoot off fireworks and light big firecrackers by the dozens on July 3rd. And July 2nd. And July 1st. And June 30th. And July 5th. This time of year I'm pretty sure I live surrounded by a bunch of Jeff Foxworthy joke punchlines.
