May 5 Update: No story in The Tennessean yet. I'm baffled as to why The Tennessean is the only major newspaper in the state to not report on the state government's surging revenue surplus - especially as it underscores and highlights a major difference between the Democratic incumbent governor and the leading Republican challenger. A surging surplus is bad news for the pro-income-tax lobby, so I wouldn't imagine you'll hear much about it in the Old Media. Additionally, there is little chance any tax - sales or otherwise - will come back down once the general public gets used to paying the increased rate.
