Ahmadinejad and Robertson

By Nathan Moore

Pat Robertson and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran are both finding justifiction in Sharon's stroke, and seemingly see no reason not to uncork the champagne if he dies. Ahmadinejad first

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's president said Thursday he hoped for the death of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the latest anti-Israeli comment by a leader who has already provoked international criticism for suggesting that Israel be "wiped off the map."

"Hopefully, the news that the criminal of Sabra and Chatilla has joined his ancestors is final," President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying by the semiofficial Iranian Students News Agency.

Ahh, then Robertson

The Reverend Pat Robertson says Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's massive stroke could be God's punishment for giving up Israeli territory.

The founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network told viewers of "The 700 Club" that Sharon was "dividing God's land," even though the Bible says doing so invites "God's enmity."

Robertson added, "I would say woe to any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course."

He noted that former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated.

Robertson said God's message is, "This land belongs to me. You'd better leave it alone."

Sarah notes over at MooreThoughts

Pat Robertson continues to be an embarrassment to the Christian faith by stating the Sharon’s massive stroke is punishment for giving up Israeli territory.

You’re on quite a roll there, Reverend!

I believe Bob Krumm addressed the global characteristics of the nutty ends of both sides of the political spectrum, calling it a political sphere. Thinking the death of Ariel Sharon is justified is ridiculous no matter which side you view it from. But to see Pat Robertson cheering along with an Islamocrat is too much. And too Old Testament, for my taste.

If Rev. Robertson knows what God is going to do, why doesn't he warn folks? And if God is now smiting fellows who divide, a repentant Robertson better have a word with the Big Guy. God knows where he lives. In fact, it's a little surprising that he hasn't already awakened with a Holy Hand Grenade in his boxers!

Look on the bright side, though: We didn't elect Robertson president. American Jews might be forced to wear Stars of David on their lapels or something equally creative. Rev. Robertson just seems a little too eager for fellow humans to suffer -- Hugo Chavez, for example -- for a clergyman. Say a prayer for poor Pat.

I'd like to lock all religious fundamentalists -- no matter what god(s) they worship, from Apollo to Zoroaster -- into an enormous empty room for ten years where they can rant, scream and spray spittle at each other nonstop... thereby granting the remainder of the world a modicum of peace and quiet for a change. And Pat's the first one I'd shove through the door.

After ten years, the room gets opened, and those who are willing and worthy to rejoin the human race will be free to do so. The rest get shut up for another decade.

Support the Fundamentalist Lockdown Initiative -- help the meek TRULY inherit the earth.

Robertson is the quintessential "tighty-whitey" wearer. That might be the problem...

It was a stupid thing for Robertson to say, and not the first stupid thing he has said (and I do respect some of what he does). My lefty friends will be SHOCKED to hear me say that.

HOWEVER... there is just a tad too much dose of the old moral equivalence suggested by your post.

Robertson is a private citizen, not a head of government. If you wanted to quote the stupidity of every private US citizen, or even the influential ones, you would have no time left to write about anything else.

I'm concerned because I have already seen some apologists for Ahamadnasdkfhwueh or whatever his name is, cite similar Robertson comparisons and say "SEE...SEE...Americans aren't any better."

Ah, but to many of these folks Stalin wasn't such a bad guy.... once you got to know him.
