Today's Reading List

The War: Americans are increasingly confident in the Bush strategy for winning the war in Iraq.

Politics: The Tennessean's Brad Schrade ought to win an award for his reporting on the myriad of scandals that are plaguing the legislature and the most scandal-riddled governor's office in Tennessee since the Ray Blanton era. The latest: The Tennessee Highway Patrol rehired a trooper who resigned after - wait for it - forging a judge's signature in order to fix a traffic ticket. ... Meanwhile, the Nashville City Paper reports that state Sen. Thelma Harper "appears to be obstructing legislative meetings that must take place so that dozens of state agencies can continue to operate, according to correspondence and e-mails obtained by The City Paper."

The Economy: To the New York Times, bad news is bad news, and good news is bad news too.

Kelo: Blake Wylie looks at a huge eminent domain case and wonders if U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr. still thinks the Kelo decision, allowing government to seize private property to give it to private developers for any reason at all, is still a "positive" ruling that will help redevelop poor neighboorhods.

Poll findings tell a different story.

I'm not a Ford supporter yet, but he did emphasize just compensation. I can't see this becoming a good litmus issue; but then I'm not the partisan kind.

So since this trooper was rehired by the Sundquist administration as part of a last minute deal, that must be the most scandal ridden administration since Ray Blanton that you are referring to.

Brady: If you've been keeping up, you'd know that this is only the most recent example of what's been going on with the THP lately. This is just an extra log on the fire...a fire that's been burning for a while.

Wintermute: So...moving a bunch of poor people out in order to bring a rich investor in is ok in America? Sure...you can say "just compensation," but if that person doesn't want to move, you have to evict them...of of THEIR private property. If the people don't want to move off of their own private land the Supreme Court has made it easier to allow local governments to force them out.

Again...something else that is an extra log on the fire...a small part of a bigger picture.
