Barnucopia

The stretch of U.S. Highway 31 (Columbia Pike) running from the southern edge of Franklin, Tennessee, to Spring Hill, is a cornucopia of barns that, increasingly stand out ironically because they are being increasingly surrounded by the rapidly multiplying subdivisions and commercial development of Nashville's fast-growing southern suburbs. Here are a few of them, photographed during the day Saturday (December 10) in various states of use or disrepair... or sometimes both.

The construction work in the background is for State Route 840, the partially-completed bypass through Nashville's southern suburbs. It currently ends at Highway 31, but is being extended westward. To the north of this barn, on the other side of the interchange you see being constructed, is Tollgate Village, a very large new residential and commercial development being built in that "new urbanism" style.

Just have to say those old barns are so precious to me. Your photos are a record that I hope you will preserve in other ways.
