Why is the American media largely ignoring the Paris riots? For the same reason they largely ignored the Paris heatwave, or the Theo Van Gogh murder, or all sorts of other stories, but they didn't ignore a missing blonde girl in Aruba. Paris is not in America, nor is it in a country we've yet invaded. This is nothing sinister, it's called "selling the product people want to buy". Which is why people come to read you; you're selling it to the niche market that does care, and are paid indirectly for it via blogads. For the MSM to cover it, we'd have to start caring about what happens in France. That ain't happening. Posted by: Joe at November 4, 2005 7:01 PMSurely the 9th Circuit decision will be overturned. Just when I think they've gone over the edge, they go further over the edge. Seriously, these are scary times. Maybe someday the citizenry will wake up. And about the missing blonde in Aruba, I'm interested. As a parent, this is a worst nightmare. One evening one of my over 21 daughters called me at 1 am to pick her up at a local bar. She said she didn't know what happened, but she was suddenly very very drunk. We lateer concluded that someone had slipped her something, and she was in bad shape when I got there. Lucky she was in her home town, or I might be spending my evenings on Fox News I want justice for Natalie Holloway and her parents. I will continue to watch as long as the Aruban officials are trying to cover for themselves. This is a travesty. Our world is out of control, and we need a thoughtful process to protect ourselves. Our leadership is more focused on positioning for an election than the safety and quality of life of the citizens. Only extreme outrage on our parts will divert their attention from themselves to actions of leadership. Posted by: Kate Shanahan at November 5, 2005 1:06 AMPost a comment
