These work everywhere they are tried. They work to increase city fine revenues and accidents. I personally dislike these cameras. It is NOT as simple as applying your brakes when the light turns yellow. First of all some of the cameras are at the bottom of a steep hill, where even if you are going the speed limit it is very difficult to stop in time at the light. Secondly many trucks have to go well below the speed limit in order to ensure that they can stop if the light turns red (perhaps 15 mph below in some instances). For instance, today I saw a semi-truck run one and get pictured b/c he could not stop. He was going about 45 in a 50 but b/c trucks are so heavy it is too difficult for the truck to stop, I believe if he would have tried he would have ended up in the middle of the intersection. In addition many people will slam on their brakes to avoid a chance at a ticket. This will likely lead to several "rear-ending" accidents. I always have to check my mirror to see if there is a big truck behind me b/c I don't want to get run over if the light changes. I hate it when I hear this bull about saving lives because the fact is it makes everyone paranoid and they do spastic things when the light changes. You know what, its pretty easy to look either way before preceding through a light, so do it. And Gallatin police chief, we all know you are part of a plan to increase city revenue.
