« Today's Reading List | Main | Today's Reading List » October 19, 2005Today's Reading ListThe War: Lance Frizzell looks at the Media Research Center's big study of the American media's coverage of the Iraq war. Surprise: It's been "overwhelmingly pessimistic." For a more accurate and complete picture of how things are going in the war, my advice is: read military bloggers. It is self-evident The guys with boots on the ground know from experience how things are going much better than do reporters holed up inside Baghdad's Green Zone and editors ensconced in Manhattan, DC and Atlanta. Politics: National Review Online praises my congressman, U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn, for not rolling over on the Miers nomination. .. Bob Krumm looks at whether the FBI's Operation Tennessee Waltz sting was targeted based on racism or if the FBI simply went after corrupt legislators. More thoughts on the same topic here from The Tennessee Liberal. ... Also, in a related post, Krumm stands up for Frank Ritter, because Ritter stood up for state Rep. Stacey Campfield. All three are stand-up guys, in my opinion. ... Speaking of Campfield, he translates some popular political sayings for you. Religion: Robert Byers considers the Christian businessman's obligations vis a vis illegal immigration and asks "Who would Jesus hire?" Illegal immigration is "a problem that people who describe themselves as "conservative, Republican and Christian" could work to fix as well. Yes, it would require considerable financial sacrifice. Yes, it might mean they would have to change their business model and practices. But isn't living the Christian life supposed to require sacrifice? "Take up your cross" and all that?" ... Also, Tod Bolsinger, writing from GodBlogCon, reflects on the limits of blogging. The Media Is CBS really going to reinvent TV news? Comments
The mainstream media's pessimism dropped off as soon as their attention was pulled away by the hurricanes. One of the few good things that resulted from them. From that time on, with Iraqi public opinion already turned around, its been great without the media's constant negativity. I don't know if you've seen more readers since then, but I have. Let's hope the tone remains more positive. The time to reflect on this amazing transformation is short, because the next phase is already in progress. Hi Bill..enjoy your blog very much. I have a daughter in Afghanistan and am stroking out over the media coverage and incitement of the terrorists. It is certainly apparent to the troops whose side the media is on. Every time there is the slightest incident to reflect badly on the troops, it gets front and center everywhere. Violence escalates and the danger to my daughter increases tenfold. I now harbor a rage for the MSM and their ideologically impaired and hate blinded journalists. I have witnessed so much dishonorable journalism in advancement of their political agenda that they are no longer relevant in the mix of what should be read or believed, at least to me. However, the naive and uniformed eat it up. And our enemies use it to kill our soldiers and innocent people. I am always agonizing over one thought - how can these so called journalists have so heinlously impaired moral values and be so callously cruel in the application of their trade that truth no longer matters and the lives of our soldiers matter even less. What has happened to them to produce such an amoral view and a disregard of ethics? I love my daughter with my every breath and would gladly take her place. She loves her country and truly understands the mission, and believes in it. I resent that she risks her life for citizens of the United States of America with the power to assist terrorists in their agenda to kill her.
