« Salt is Good For You | Main | Black Caucus Update » October 6, 2005Styx and StonesChannel-flipping tonight after The Apprentice and reading my boy a couple bedtime books, and I come across Dennis DeYoung, long ago the lead singer of Styx, singing "Come Sail Away" with full orchestral backing on WNPT, the local public television station. Don't know if it's a local or national thing. A few thoughts: The guy is looking old. But better than he did when he was dressed up in that silly Mr. Roboto costume waaay back a long time ago when I was young enough and stupid enough to have paid money for tickets to that concert. Tommy Shaw was the better part of Styx. Posted in Miscellaneous

"Tommy Shaw was the better part of Styx." It's always amazing what we bloggers can find to agree on. Posted by: joe public at October 7, 2005 9:23 AMStyx was three bands- Dennis Deyoung, Tommy Shaw, and James Young. All three wrote and sang, and all three had completely different styles. My belief is that's why they were so popular- they could appeal to both sexes (Dennis doing love songs, the other two doing more manly stuff). Last I saw, the entire band except for Dennis was still playing together. He and Shaw apparently didn't get along well. Anyway, I agree, too, Tommy Shaw was the better part.
