Black and White

State Rep. Stacey Campfield was a little too flip rhetorically in recent days, for which the state's first blogging legislator has properly apologized, but his insistence on seeing the bylaws of the Black Caucus in the Tennessee legislature has lead to some welcome probing of the organization by The Tennessean, which reports today that the organization is refusing to disclose the source or sources of its funding. Technically they don't have to, but in light of all the recent focus on ethics and the arrest of several current or former legislators - including of three current or former members of the Black Caucus - for accepting bribes, full disclosure is the minimum to sustain credibility and trust.

Meanwhile, I went looking for a copy of the bylaws of the General Assembly's "White Caucus" but I couldn't find one. Because there is no "White Caucus." And that's a good thing because legislators really ought not to segregate themselves into race-based cliques.

I contend it is not a proper apology. You cannot apologize for what someone else has done. What people haev done, according to Campfield, is misunderstand him. And for their misunderstanding he is sorry.

That is a joke of an apology.

How Dick Durbin of him.

I contend that there's nothing to apologize for. Segregation and racism, regardless of the source, don't work, Campfield has the guts to point it out.

That may be true, but what he wrote is in no way a "proper apology."

This all may be moot soon. If the current progress of the TN waltz continues apace, then there might not be a Black Caucus left.

What If There Were A White Caucus????
These same people would be shouting at the top of their voice about racism! There should be neither "caucus".

Campfield made a blunder in his comments. But he didn't really apologize for what he did. Does anyone think he was genuine in wanting to join the black cacus. He adds to the embarrasing legislator list in TN's general assembly.

"Does anyone think he was genuine in wanting to join the black cacus"

In a Word - Yes -
