Around Town

My wife and I had the pleasure of hearing Jonell Mosser sing at the B.B. King's Blues Club in downtown Nashville last night. Mosser, for the unenlightened, is one of Nashville's best vocal talents - and that's saying something given that this city probably has more singing talent per capita than any place on the planet. She's also been vastly underappreciated by the major record labels for more than a decade.

So much for stereotypes. I never would have pegged you to be getting your groove on at BB Kings to Jonell Mosser.
She's incredible. I don't think she's underrated. I think anyone who hears her knows she brilliant. She's just not 13 years old and 2 pounds--a real hindrance in getting signed to a label these days.

Well, with that in mind, are you and yours going to see the Moody Bluegrass tomorrow night? The show is a lot of major bluegrass artists with the original Moody Blues. I am too weak to go,and that bums me out! I want to see this show.

Okay. If I find you moshing in the mud at an Ozzy Osborne concert, I'm posting it! ;)

I've heard Mosser; I used to go see her a lot at the Bluebird. She's like Bonnie Rait but can't play the guitar. She's also part of a group called Kentucky Thunder with three other women singers (one of whom is Vickie Carrico, who puts Jonell to shame vocally). I saw them at 3rd & Lindley a couple of months before we invaded Iraq, and when she started talking about how great Noam Chomsky was on stage, I pretty much decided she didn't need any more of my money.

Well, she's spent the past decade-plus singing in smoky nightclubs and hanging out with songwriters and musicians (and drummers), not studying policy, so her being a fan of Chomsky can be ascribed to ignorance.

She still sings great and puts on a good show.

Just a comment regarding past comments of Jonell Mosser in relation to her being a fan of Chomsky......She sings every year at least twice...in a group to support the first ammendment. (The name of the group escapes me at this time) but they play at the Bluebird at least twice a year...She also DOES play the guitar...she played in a 3 girl band over 20 years ago in Bowling Green Kentucky where she's from and rocked it like Bonnie Rait. So, for those who what to be utterly amazed and taken in with the intensity of her music and to watch her come alive as she performs wherever she is, it is certinally worth it. $10 is merely a drop in the bucket to pay for the almost 2 hours of enjoyment at one of her shows. Happy Listening!
