The blogosphere's "Porkbusters" campaign that's rocking the mainstream media and Congress encourages bloggers to contact their congressman and senators and urge them to spcifically identify what pork they'd be willing to cut in order to keep hurricane relief spending from adding to the federal deficit. The idea is to spotlight legislators who talk the talk about fiscal sanity but don't walk the walk. I don't have to worry about that with my congressman. There's none with a more consistent record on spending and tax restraint. Comments
Bill, It seems to me that the best way to curb pork spending would be by prohibiting the attachement of these items to totally unrelated bills. This stealthy practice has been used by both sides to get pork passed. They hide some favorite pork barrel project in an otherwise acceptable amendment to a vital bill knowing that even if somebody finds it, they'll never vote against it because that would kill the important bill as well. And if a legislator does vote against it on principle, they can then be said to oppose the issue covered by the main bill as well. This little trick has been used often by both sides and must be stopped if we ever want to get a handle on Government spending. Jim Moore Posted by: Jim at September 29, 2005 2:57 PMPost a comment
