« 16 States Considering Taxpayers Bill of Rights | Main | Wishful Thinking » March 29, 2005Why the Press is Paying Less Attention to IraqLance Frizzell wonders if declining press coverage of Iraq means the American media is beginning to realize just how well things are going there. My impression is that current war correspondents are disappointed by not getting their own Vietnam to cover so they express resentment by simply not reporting our success. Contrast that with WWII journalists who actually - get this - rooted for an American victory during the war.Frizzell, deployed to northern Iraq, also provides photos of a day of training the Iraqi military, and quotes from the liberal New Republic magazine, which said this: over the past month, the news from Iraq has been unusually good. Depending on which military official you ask, insurgent attacks have dropped by either a third or nearly half. The number of Americans killed in action has declined. Civilians have begun killing terrorists. Over the past week alone, U.S. forces have killed scores of insurgents in lopsided battles - in the latest, Iraqi forces spearheaded the offensive. We're winning the war in Iraq. We actually won it, as Lance says, on January 30 when millions of Iraqis turned out to vote, robbing the terrorists of their only real weapon, intimidation. The Left doesn't want us to win the war in Iraq, however, and so they'll keep talking around our success and coming up with ever more fantastic ways to portray it as a failure. Comments
Does anyone actually pay any attention to what the TSM (Terrorist Supporting Media - Old MSM) says or does anymore? Most everything they disseminate is most, or partially, fabricated, and what isn't contains ommissions which slant the tall tale to their political agenda. Bah! Not even suitable for lining the bottom of my bird's cage! Posted by: Vulgorilla at March 29, 2005 7:55 AMJanuary 30th really took the wind out the media's sails - the Iraqi "quagmire" seems to be only a memory. Posted by: jane m at March 29, 2005 2:44 PMYour right Bill. The media try to compare Iraq to Vietnam, but the only similarity is this. In Vietnam, the media was clearly on the side of the enemy and they were successful in bringing about our defeat. They are also on the side of the enemy now, but this time they will not be successful. I think we won the war long before Jan. 30. Posted by: Glen Dean at March 29, 2005 5:52 PMThank you for hosting Lance's blog. Since finding him (through a link from another milblog) a few months ago, I'm a regular reader of his. Posted by: Retread at March 30, 2005 11:57 AMHi,i just wanted to post my opinion about the media's coverage of Iraq. It seems to be going downhill, especially since the war seems to be going better. My son is stationed over there with the 278th RCT. He says they are doing some good over there. He told me that the iraqi people were awesome. He is helping train the iraqi soldiers. I wish all the doomer gloomers would just shut up, and let our soldiers do some good. Posted by: Patti Fox at April 20, 2005 1:01 AMPost a comment
