« On The Front Lines For Freedom | Main | News You Can Use » October 28, 2004No Surrender?Instapundit guest-blogger Ann Althouse reports from a big Kerry rally in Madison, Wisconsin, where Bruce Springsteen delivered a speech and sang a few songs. I continue to find it interesting that the Kerry campaign has chosen Springsteen's song "No Surrender" as one of its campaign rally theme songs. The song's message is the opposite of that implied by its title. The lyrics: No SurrenderThere's a war outside still raging, you say it ain't ours anymore to win. The war rages on, but the singer simply wishes to lie down and pretend there's no war, only peaceful skies. Perhaps that's why John Kerry plays the song at campaign rallies, and why he mounted the podium at the Democratic National Convention as that very snippet of the song boomed out across the Fleet Center crowd. There's a war outside still raging, but we'd rather dream romantic dreams of peace than actually fight for it. We're old. We're tired. We've lost that fighting spirit we had when we were young. We just wanna talk about healthcare... Comments
Perhaps BS and Kerry's crowd didn't see the latest terror tape that ABC has. Posted by: at October 28, 2004 6:30 PMI believe that our military people today are the progeny of our” Greatest Generation”. And they are our next “Greatest Generation”. I am very proud of and amazed at what our armed forces have accomplished. Can anybody comprehend that our forces invaded Iraq, which had almost 1,000,000 TONS of destructive explosives at its disposal, and swept up through that country and liberated Baghdad and incur almost no casualties. I do not make light of, or try to minimize, the casualties. Every life is precious. I wish that I could console and thank every loved one who has felt the loss of this battle. I am a veteran, Honorable Discharge, USAF 1967. I remember seeing John Kerry on the evening news in the early 70’s. I remember him talking about the “Winter Soldiers”, and claiming to represent the “Vietnam Veterans against the War”. My recollection is that “you are not a Winter Soldier, you are a phony.” To see John Kerry’s testimony and reference to his “Winter Soldier’s “ speech in front of the US Senate please refer to http://www.evergreenreview.com/107/kerry/kerry2.html Thomas Paine said: “These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”. John Kerry, you are not a “Winter Soldier”. You are a summer soldier and a sunshine patriot who will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of your country. I also remember seeing on national TV, in 1971, in total astonishment, a veteran, connected to John Kerry and the VVAW that I had trained as an aircraft mechanic. He strutted out on a stage in front of an audience and on national TV proclaiming that “Hell no we won’t go”. This dick head, maybe, refueled airplanes on the flight line in Camh Rhan Bay,Vietnam and yet pretended to be an aggrieved Vietnam Vet who saw serious enemy action I personally wouldn’t have trusted him to refuel an aircraft because he couldn’t have even changed a light bulb. My point is that John Kerry has always associated with people like the above idiot and the likes of this creep: "Some discrepancies in Mr. Kerry’s earlier statements about VVAW remain unaddressed by the campaign. Last week, Mr. Kerry said he last saw Mr. Hubbard in April 1971, shortly before a National Review article exposed Mr. Hubbard for exaggerating his rank and his service record in Vietnam. However, a New York Times report put Mr. Kerry at a fund-raiser with Mr. Hubbard on Long Island on August 29, 1971. Now, Mr. Nicosia’s documents indicate that Mr. Kerry had a verbal altercation with Mr. Hubbard in November of that year." Ask John Kerry about Al Hubbard the Communist, that he got in bed with in the early 70’s. Posted by: Joseph Murphy at October 28, 2004 9:12 PMMr. Murphy, I will assume that you served in Vietnam, so I thank you for your service. While you were there, please tell me how you regarded those who, with all of the services to choose from, actively sought to enlist in the National Guard? Posted by: SemiPundit at October 29, 2004 2:20 AM"The song's message is the opposite of that implied by its title.???" No it's not! It's is an appell from the singer towards his listener who just wants to close his/her eyes and follow his/her dreams down; it's the one he's singing at that says there's no war left to win... gosh, how can a song me so intentionally misunderstood Posted by: mike at April 24, 2005 11:56 AMPost a comment
