« The Gift | Main | Flower Power » March 31, 2004From God's EyeRubel Shelly considers a moment from near the end of The Passion of the Christ: One of the wonderful things about art is its subtle ambiguities. It was the initial "God's eye view" of the Golgotha scene that gave it away. Then the descent of the single drop of fluid from the God's eye, landing at the foot of the cross, and causing the earth to quake, completed the visual metaphor. Coming at the finale of Jesus' suffering, it was both startling and diverting. Finally the pain of the innocent sufferer was complete, and would not be forgotten. It was an amazing cinematic device.
