« Saving Private Ryan | Main | Capitalists' Carnival » March 1, 2004Fevered BloggingNew data from the Pew Internet and American Life Project - based on a random telephone survey of Interent users, Pew estimates that somewhere between 2 percent and 7 percent of adult Internet users in the United States actually keep their own blogs and, of those, only about one in 10 update their blog daily, with most bloggers doing so once a week or less. "The impression out there is that a lot of the blog activity is very feverish," said Lee Rainie, the Pew project's director. "That's not the case. For most bloggers, it's not an all-consuming, all-the-time kind of experience."I've heard that Pew statisticians rejected data from one surveyed Net user because it seemed impossible that "Glenn Reynolds" updates his blog as often as he told the Pew surveyer on the phone. "The data was deemed unreliable because, if he posted that often, there's no way he'd have time to take a phone call from us," Rainie said. UPDATE: Scroll up for a more in-depth look at the Pew report - and the media coverage of it. Comments
11% is pretty good. IIRC, it was only 4% a year or so ago. Posted by: Dodd at March 1, 2004 9:18 AMSo Glenn skewed the survey. I once skewed a survey. Skewing surveys is fun. Let's hope Mr. Reynolds keeps up the good work. Posted by: Alan Kellogg at March 1, 2004 6:53 PMPost a comment
