What To Do, What To Do

My blog is hosted by Verve Hosting (who, by the way, are extremely responsive on technical-support requests), and the plan I bought includes the ability to create up to 40 email addresses that end in @billhobbs.com. Now, clearly, I don't need 40 email addresses. I am using one account, bill-at-billhobbs.com, and figure I ought to reserve 14 more in case I want to create email addresses for members of my family or create such email addresses as newstips-at-billhobbs.com, etc., and Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do with the other 25 accounts?

Bill, do what I do and create throwaway addresses whenever asked for an email address on the web: blog comments, site registration, online purchases, etc. (Just like I've done for posting this comment.)

I never give out my real email address on the Web. The spammers will get it sooner or later, or you'll start getting viruses, as happened to me last week. Because I use a different email address for each blog, I knew where it had come from.

Sell them to spammers?

Save them for friends.

Offer some to your advertisers. That way if someone clicks on the advertisers site there will be a way of tracking the contact.
ie if ABC manufacturing takes out a blogad, then you give them the address abc@billhobbs.com. Then they use it at their site. Any e-mail that they receive through that account would be credited to coming from your blogad.

The best thing about Verve is their tech support. "Extremely responsive" is an understatement.

As for the email addresses: you'll probably want a private one that you don't publish, for at some point, if your blog continues to increase in popularity, you won't be able to keep up with your mail. Having a private one just for friends will help.
