The oddest thing I saw at the movie was one of the customers. It was a 25ish woman who sat in front of myself and my 80 year old mother with a seeing eye dog. It is not unusual for a blind person to listen to a movie, but I wasn't aware that there were many young blind aramaic and Latin speakers in Worcester Mass. Posted by: P. I heard it last night on KFYI AM, a Clear Channel hate radio station out here in Phoenix. The movie couldn't be anti-semitic, or so they said, because after all, "We all killed Christ" including, they specifically said, Asians, Budhists, and lots of other folks that weren't semitic, roman, italian, or anywhere within 1000 miles of the place. And Jebus Knows, I wasn't around back then! And yet, and yet, and yet.... And yet a few months back, when certain groups were calling for reparations to slaves, the same DJ-Haters on KFYI were telling me that I shouldn't have to pay up because I wasn't around back then, and neither were they. And I wasn't around back then, my predecessors were on a completely different continent. Can you help me puzzle this one out? Thanks! Tonight, as the credits rolled (we stayed until they ended) I was filled with a deep sadness - indeed, shame - at the profound deficiency of my own discipleship. Gibson has said that the movie's answer to the question, "Who killed Jesus?" is, "We all did." That is not what I felt at the end. Instead, I felt a deep sense of having betrayed the great trust given me by Christ, a enormous awareness of my own sin and sinfulness and my total reliance on God's gracious mercy.
