« Jobless Claims Plunge | Main | Was Bush Awol? »

January 1, 2004

Hello!

Welcome to the new-and-improved HobbsOnline. We're still tweaking the new site - fixing the blogroll, adding categories, moving some posts over from the old site, adding a few other features and such - so pardon the mess.

A few details of the move: Thanks to Michael Williams for recommending VerveHosting. Thanks to Todd Anderson for the site design, installing MovableType, importing 3,000 (exactly) blog entries from my old site into the archives of this site, and general technical wizardry - if you need a new MovableType blog created, contact Todd at todd-at-popshot.net.

Subscribers to my daily email alert will continue receiving alerts from the new site without interruption, thanks to Bloglet.

So, what am I going to do with all those old blog entries from the old site? Right now, most of them are held in "draft" status, which means you can't access them via this blog - although they remain available at the old site. My plan over time is to create several "greatest hits" packages on key subjects, such as the "Was Bush AWOL?" category here. But that's going to take a lot of time and manual labor, so be patient. Eventually, each of those "greatest hits" packages will even have internal links that went to previous HobbsOnline posts changed to be links to the same post re-published here at billhobbs.com. As I said... it's gonna take a lot of time! But the results - packages of posts related to, for example, the national economy, weapons of mass destruction, Tennessee budget & tax politics, etc., will be valuable resources for writer and readers alike.

I'll keep you posted as improvements and additions are made. Feel free to email me at bill-at-billhobbs.com to offer suggestions.

As I said before, I like the new look! Welcome to Movable Type. I think you will enjoy using it. Just out of curiosity, though, why not use popup comments?

I look forward to the continued growth of your site and its influence. Keep up the great work.

Such clean design, too. Looks and, more importantly, works easily for users.

Hey, the place looks great! Congrats! I have been using both MT and Verve Hosting since May of 03 and have no complaints yet.

Lookin' good! As someone who's also recently made the switch from Blogspot to a MT-powered "real" host, all I can say is "I feel your pain."

Bill,

As everything that I've seen you do, the new site is a completely class. Congratulations for leaving dear old Blogspot. Best of wishes for a wonderful new year.

I can't believe I'm the only one who thinks this new blog looks like a**. It's much harsher in color contrasts, the reading area is smaller in width, the font size is smaller, and one has to click to read full entries. Yuck.

The old blog was attractive, extremely easy on the eyes, and distinctive. This new one looks like just another poorly-designed blog...

Sigh.

Great new site, Bill. Congratulations on moving up. Look forward to your next year.
